Family and friends are an important part of anyone's life. What a
person thinks, how they feel and what they have been through all
contribute to who they are today. And sharing those feeling and
thoughts with the ones you care about and people whose opinion you
value is important for growing old and staying young at heart…At any
age but more importantly our age we still have a lot of learning to
do.
It brings me back to a great time as a youngster when my siblings
(five to be exact) and I were spending another endless sunny day on
the beach with my parents - frolicking in the water, throwing the ball
around and barbequing, all the while my kid sister was building
another one of her sandcastles.
That particular day, and all at once, her five brothers became
interested in building with her. But to her, the idea of her older
brothers "ruining" and "sabotaging" the masterpiece she worked so hard
on was not appealing at all. She got frustrated and angry with us,
and my father stepped in.
He diffused the situation and told us all to go find long sticks of
drift wood. We went and found, and returned with our sticks. He told
me to break a stick over my knee. I did, and we all wondered what he
was getting at. My father then told me to take the sticks from my
siblings and try to break them all at once. I picked them up high,
and slammed them onto my leg in a great effort to fulfill the
challenge. But nothing happened. Not one stick broke.
My father explained to all six of his children that those sticks were
like people -- one stick can easily be broken, but if there are many
sticks working together towards the same goal and stand for the same
purpose, that can not be broken so easily – if ever at all. He
continued on about how working together as a family, and in life, is
important to success.
And while the age range between all us kids was about ten years,
together we realized that if we wanted to build a great big massive
sandcastle we could – and it would only be easier if we worked
together.
My father always said that many hands make light work. And I truly
believe that saying.
There are 76 million of us Baby Boomers – that equals many hands to
help our generation as a whole. So, from BloomingBoomer.com to
everyone out there, let's all work together and enjoy together. Live,
Learn, Love, Life.
