While driving to work today, I saw a license plate with “Lov Bnt” on it. At first I thought, “What a strange thing to have on your license plate,” but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Love will either bend you or break you. In the Bible, God refers to us as clay to be molded by the maker. If clay doesn’t bend or mold, what happens to it? It is thrown out as useless. Having, so far, survived some 25+ years of marriage, believe me when I say; being able to bend is not only important in a marriage, but absolutely necessary. Not only is flexibility essential in a marriage, but in everything we do.
We, as humans, tend to want what we want and don’t want anyone to keep us from it. Yet, standing firm on our own desires, without regard to its effect on others, is like being a branch separated from a tree. While the branch is part of the tree, it is flexible, moving with the winds of change and surviving the storms of life. However, once the branch is separated, it becomes brittle and dry, breaking when challenged. Are we love bent or do we insist upon everything being our own way? If we are not flexible, we will be broken. For we are, in a sense, saying that we love ourselves and our way more than we love others; and that, my friend, can lead to a very lonely and unsatisfying existence.
Amazing how a simple thing like a license plate can make one ponder their position on life.
